Decorating for Fall

fall leaves

I know for a lot of people, summer is their favorite season. That is not the case for me. I would so much rather be cold than hot. You can always add more layers, but you can only lose so many layers before it becomes socially unacceptable. It doesn’t help that getting too hot is a sure-fire way for me to end up with a headache. You would think then, that I would dress weather appropriately. Not so much. I seem to think that if I break out my flannel and plaid, the weather will magically change to fit my wardrobe. Case in point: these pictures from our girls trip...

Curiously Cute Halloween Blankets

tricks and treats, positively bootiful, and halloween lattice blankets

I know there are a lot of people out there that aren’t ready to let go of summer. I however, am not one of those people. I LOVE fall and I have been looking forward to it for at least a month. The 90+ degree-days have gotten old and I am beyond ready to break out my plaid and sweaters. I love it when the leaves start changing color and the days get cooler. It is definitely time to break out all the candles with pumpkin and cinnamon. Most of all, I am looking forward to making peppermint fudge (and then eating the whole pan by myself). So, while it...

Cougar Pillow Freebie

Cosmo the cougar pillow

Hi there, this is Kayla again. I am the designer of one of our newer patterns: the jelly bean faces pillow. Let me tell you, it is a freaking adorable pattern. *said with complete humility* You get six amazingly cute little faces that go on a jellybean shaped pillow, and the best part is, they each have a tail! Adding tails to things just makes things cuter… like when we added tails to the back of Kira’s girls’ shirts and sent them running around Yosemite National Park. But I digress; we’re here to talk pillows. I love the pattern just the way it is, but with my nieces’ birthdays coming...

On the Move

Our moving van

This post is definitely late but I guess it’s better late than never, so here it goes: I’m sorry in advance for this long post. My husband has told me that brevity in story telling is not one of my greatest skills. But as we embark on a new year with a new chapter for our business I wanted to share a little bit about myself and the changes happening with this third of the “Musers.”   In July of 2013 we moved to Boise, Idaho for what we knew would be the final two years of Kevin’s schooling. To say I was less than thrilled to move to Boise would be accurate....

Joining “quilt as you go” blocks with sashing

We get lots of questions about our “quilt as you go” patterns. When people get to the step where we have you join the blocks with sashing, they tend to get concerned that we did our math wrong. It’s not that it’s impossible for us to have done the math wrong. That has been known to happen but in this case, we promise the math is right. 🙂 Hopefully the following tutorial will help alleviate your fears in this regard. Step by Step Explanation To start, this is an example of one of our “quilt as you go” blankets. This is block blanket one, which is the background for Forest...

Snowman Placemat

We have yet another free pattern! This one is for an adorable winter placemat with a cute little snowman applique. The steps are super easy to follow and it uses our simple sew and flip method of construction. The best part? Once you know the method you can use any fabric and change out the applique so you have a placemat for any occasion. Free Winter Snowman Placemat Pattern The pattern is set up in our traditional downloadable style that is specifically designed to print out nicely on your home printer. If you would like to download the free pattern (with the pattern pieces for the applique) just click here: download snowman...

Salty Starfish Tutorial

Yep, we’re pretty bad about keeping this blog up to date. But as Quilt Market in Houston Texas rolls around yet again so does another free pattern! Two of our new quilts are focused on the ocean: Pirate Posse and Mermaid Marina. We decided that it would be fun to give away a free pattern to go along with these two new quilts: You can find the patterns for Mermaid Marina & Pirate Posse both in downloadable and printed versions, as well as kits in our shop. These quilts use our “sew and flip” and “quilt as you go” methods; which makes these quilts go together surprising quickly.  You build one...

A Cotton-bound Fleece Blanket

Clearly, our goal to be better about updating our blog was a miserable failure. But, we have yet another free pattern for you! And this time it’s all about binding. Different Bindings In the past, we have done just about anything to avoid putting bindings on our blankets. Hence the Textured Edge Throw blanket pattern and the So Soft So Simple Throw pattern. Both patterns provide a way of joining a blanket front to back quickly and easily without the use of a binding.  Textured Edge Throw The “Textured Edge Throw” pattern uses an interestingly textured piece of fabric sandwiched between the front and back to join your blanket. It’s quick and easy and...

Kid’s Pocket Scarf

Hello there! As you may have noticed, we aren’t the best about updating this blog. We are hoping to be better about putting things up here. In that spirit, we are going to start off this new attention to our blog with a bang. Or, more accurately, with a free pattern. Our First Free Pattern Since things are a bit crazy around our respective homes (we are preparing for Spring Market in Portland, OR), this pattern is a little out of season. However, it is stinkin’ adorable and we are excited to share it with all of you. This cute pattern comes to you from the mind of Sheila. We...
