An Attitude of Gratitude

It’s no secret that I love to travel. I think I got the bug from my father. Most of my siblings seem to have been infected as well. My first international trip was to Europe when I was in High School. We went to visit my sister and her family while her husband was stationed there. I have always been grateful for the opportunity to travel and see the world. But the more I travel, the more I realize I have so much to be grateful for. I am so very blessed to live in this time and in this place. We are very good at noticing the unusual or...

Jelly Bean Bag Pattern

We introduced Kayla’s Jelly Bean Pillow pattern at the Sewing and Stitchery expo in Puyallup, WA. It has since become one of my absolute favorite patterns. It is also makes a really fun class. I just taught it at the NW Quilting Expo in Portland, OR and I hear the class filled up three days after the schedule went live. If you’d like me to teach a class in your area, let me know. My friend Leona came to help me set up and run the booth at Spring Market in St. Louis. Ever since that day I believe she has been thinking of ways to build on the pattern....

Decorating for Fall

fall leaves

I know for a lot of people, summer is their favorite season. That is not the case for me. I would so much rather be cold than hot. You can always add more layers, but you can only lose so many layers before it becomes socially unacceptable. It doesn’t help that getting too hot is a sure-fire way for me to end up with a headache. You would think then, that I would dress weather appropriately. Not so much. I seem to think that if I break out my flannel and plaid, the weather will magically change to fit my wardrobe. Case in point: these pictures from our girls trip...

Unicorn Baby Blanket

unicorn blanket and Canada fun

It is so hard to believe that summer is almost over and that fall will be here soon. We had such a fun summer! Especially our family reunion in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. Over sixty five of us spent a week together in ‘Paradise’. Our home base was the Island Lake Christian Retreat Center, just outside of Fernie, British Columbia, a place I would highly recommend! The best part was: my husband and I got to take our three granddaughters on a road trip with our new trailer through the National Parks of Canada the week prior to the reunion. There was one family that was not able to attend...

First Days

My oldest baby had her first day of school this week!! Where has the summer gone? Growing up, I didn’t start the school year until after Labor Day, but here in Colorado our kids start in the first week of August- it’s crazy!!! Anyway I love the classic first day of school pictures so for the last couple of years I’ve made personalized signs for my kids to hold for their first day of school picture. I’m particularly proud of the ones I made for them this year! And because I want you to be able to create something special for your kiddo’s first day of school, I’m attaching a...

Be the GOOD!

Some time last year the Relief Society (women’s group) at our church hosted a Women’s conference with the theme of Be the Good. They had cute little posters around the room where “Be the Good” stood out within the words “Believe there is good in the world.” The keynote speaker was Alissa Parker, a mom whose daughter, Emille, went to Sandy Hook Elementary and was killed by the gunman who entered the school. The entire audience was spellbound and in tears as we listened to her story. I cannot even imagine how incredibly awful that would have been. Somehow she has overcome the tragedy and once again found the good...

On the Move

Our moving van

This post is definitely late but I guess it’s better late than never, so here it goes: I’m sorry in advance for this long post. My husband has told me that brevity in story telling is not one of my greatest skills. But as we embark on a new year with a new chapter for our business I wanted to share a little bit about myself and the changes happening with this third of the “Musers.”   In July of 2013 we moved to Boise, Idaho for what we knew would be the final two years of Kevin’s schooling. To say I was less than thrilled to move to Boise would be accurate....

Change for the Better

Don’t be afraid of change. You may lose something good, But you may gain something better. Welcome to our new and (hopefully) improved website! It is a time of great change for the three of us at McKay Manor Musers, both personally and with our little business. A few years ago we had a developer create our website, but now that developer has moved onto other things and will no longer be supporting our website. This left us with the opportunity to start from scratch. We (some what crazily) decided to design, create, and maintain our website on our own! This has been an interesting experience to say the least,...
