Today we are featuring a guest on our blog! We have mentioned Leona a few times. Sheila and Leona get together to sew and visit as often as possible, which ends up being at least once a month and more if we have a quilt show coming up. Some of you may have met her at the Portland Expo or at the Quilt Market in St Louis this past year. We hope you enjoy her creativity just as much as we do!

Hello, Sewing Friends! I am a huge fan of the McKay Manor Musers pattern line and love thinking of new ways to use their sweet appliqués. As soon as the Christmas holidays ended and the calendar turned to 2018, I started thinking ahead to Valentine’s Day. I love the critters that Sheila’s daughter, Kira, designed for The Yosemite Collection book.

The book has 9 adorable appliqué pattterns along with 8 detailed project idea for using them and tons of tips and photos. I just knew that these critters would be perfect for a banner and I loved how my banner turned out!

There are tons of pendant patterns on the internet but I made my own so that the critters would fit perfectly with a little space left for appliquéd hearts. You can download patterns and experiment with them to get the look you like. I chose some fun gingham and polka dot fabrics for the pendants and used some pellon to stiffen them up a bit so they would hang nicely. I cut the critters out of scraps of Cuddle fabric and the colors were just perfect!

I then cut out hearts of different sizes and added them along with a button or two in the center of each one. A few French knots to put sparkle in the critters’ eyes and they were ready for backing. With right sides together, I sewed around the pendant leaving the top open for turning. I ironed them and then attached them all together with a long piece of decorative seam binding.

Leave enough seam binding so you can sew a loop on each end for hanging. ( I added a little button at each loop and it was ready to hang!

If you would like to make a banner like mine, just order the cute Yosemite Collection Book and get creative making your banner!

Thank you for joining me today! I don’t have a blog of my own but you can reach me through Sheila’s email if you have any questions.

Have fun getting ready for Valentine’s Day!

Leona is a close friend of the Musers! She is a creative genius, travel buddy, and former elementary school teacher (she was Kira’s second grade teacher)! She loves playing around with our ideas and making them her own. If you have any more questions about her ideas, use our contact us form and she will get back to! We love her willingness to help us and share her ideas with you! Thanks!
